“What will I learn at Centurion Krav Maga?”

This roadmap is designed to show you the value of our program. A normal schedule for most students is two to three times a week. If you show up, work hard, and be consistent you will make excellent progress no matter where you start in terms of physical fitness or fighting skill.

Training Roadmap

Day 1

Participate in a trial class to get your first taste of what we teach and how we teach it. Learn a new technique that could save your life broken down in a way that utilizes neuroscience and classical teaching methods to optimize your retention.

Months 1-3

During this time, you will be cycled between the techniques in our Fundamentals program. Embrace the soreness! It will pass. You will learn the basics of defending unarmed attacks such as chokes, head locks, and bear hugs. You will also get techniques to utilize against knives, sticks, handguns, and long guns. Ground fighting begins here with escapes from mount, guard, side mount, scarfholds, and back mount. By the end of the third month students who attend consistently begin to recognize the techniques and start to become smoother in their execution.

If you join the Fight Skills class (which is the best way to do it) you will learn how to throw punch and kick combinations using focus mitts and Muay Thai pads. This training helps build and hone fighting skills such as head movement, punch form, and foot work. Plus, it is a crazy good workout. You will also take the training off the pads and begin to drill fight techniques with protective gear on. (This gear is mandatory to join the fight classes.) Safety is a priority at our gym. You are not thrown into fighting pits on day one.

Months 9-12

Around the end of your first year of training you will be versed in the foundational techniques in our system. You will also have enough fight skill to be free sparring with punches and kicks on your feet and on the ground. At this point you will take your first test. Testing is not mandatory and if you aren’t ready you won’t test. But, upon successful completion of the test you are now invited into the Advanced Krav Maga Classes.

Years 2-3

Once you begin training in the Advanced Classes you may feel like you are back to the beginning in a lot of ways. This is normal. The number of techniques goes up drastically. You will train with more advanced students and the pace of classes will increase. Real world complications such as multiple attackers are integrated. Ground fighting becomes more technical as you begin to learn Jiu Jitsu counter training. The Foundational level teaches you to deal with untrained attackers. The Advanced level teaches you to deal with other trained individuals. Finishing up your third year of training you will be ready to take your second test and join the Black Belt classes.

Year 4 and Beyond

Now that you have techniques and principles to deal with unarmed and weapon attacks from any angle, against both trained and untrained assailants, you will be able to push your decision-making ability to the next level. What if you are armed? What if there is no good technique for a particular scenario? In the real-world things get messy, techniques will not be perfectly executed. Can you keep fighting even when things don’t go your way? Can you articulate to law enforcement why you did what you did? During this time, you will begin to not just be “good at” the system, but will start to master it.

Honorable Mentions

This roadmap only talks about the self-defense journey and is by no means exhaustive of what you will learn. Depending on your goals there can be other huge changes to your life including:

Weight loss- Our school has hundreds of students who have lost 20-50 lbs when integrating the Fight Conditioning classes. Some, even more than 50!

Reduce medications- Students come in with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc. Many times, their doctors reduce or eliminate their prescriptions when they no longer need them. Check out our program to use HSA or FSA funds for your membership!

Reduce depression and increase confidence- Physical exercise and gaining muscle help regulate the body's hormones. That, along with the knowledge that you can handle dangerous situations if they arise help boost confidence and self-esteem. We are not a cure, but can be a powerful tool in the battle against anxiety and depression that is rampant in our culture.
